IAT HPCC COURSE INFORMATION

OVERVIEW


When: 1 pm-2.30 pm on Fortnightly on Sundays, 6 teaching sessions 

Course Duration: 6 July  2025 - 21 September 2025

Location: Online via Zoom


The goal of the Hair Practitioner’s Certificate Course is to give you some basic knowledge about the hair and scalp so that you can then understand how internal and external factors can cause hair loss and hair breakage.  


This 12-week online course includes : 


  • 5 modules divided into 12 lessons
  • Fortnightly live teaching interactive webinars covering each module  
  • Six videos of pre-recorded lectures by David Salinger, Executive Director of IAT 
  • A detailed International of Trichologist’s course hand book. 
  • Multiple choice assessment quiz at the end of each lesson
  • Revision session
  • Exam


This course is suitable for a number of participants ranging from those who give advice to people about hair loss like G.P’s to those working within the hair industry including hairstylists, barbers, hair coaches and those with a keen interest in the science of hair and hair loss. 


The live interactive webinars will be delivered by Lorna Jones, IAT Certified Trichologist.


COURSE FEATURES


  • Timetabled fortnightly live teaching interactive webinars which cover each module  
  • Lectures are live streamed online using the Zoom platform. At the end of the session, there is an opportunity for Q & A’s
  • Lectures are held online on Sunday afternoons at 1pm


All students must agree to attend with their camera's on as the sessions will be interactive and will give participants the opportunity to ask any questions.  


If anyone misses the live webinar session on a Sunday or would like a recap, it will be recorded and replayed the following week on a Wednesday evening at 7.30pm. It is will not be available for distribution.  


  • The live lectures support the content in the course handbook. 
  • There is a multiple-choice assessment quiz at the end of each lesson, to aid participant’s learning.
  • Six pre-recorded videos are provided as part of the course material which participants get to keep and are therefore available for viewing at any time.

We recognise that there are a variety of learning methods, and that people learn in different ways. Some are visual learners, others are auditory learners, or some maybe kinesthetic learners. Therefore, the course content is delivered in a variety of ways to suit a variety of learning methods. 


Videos


There are 5 video lectures that will be sent out to at the beginning of the course. In addition there is also a pre-recorded Revision video. They have been recorded by David Salinger, the Executive Director of the International Association of Trichologists, which will cover the following: 


  • Relevance of pH 
  • Disulphide bond 
  • Patches of baldness 
  • The microscope 
  • Hair and Scalp 
  • Diffuse hair loss 


Detailed Course Handbook 

The course book is a full comprehensive guide and consists of 12 lessons. This is complimented by pre-recorded videos. 


Live interactive webinars

This gives a classroom setting and the opportunity to discuss concepts and to learn from shared experiences


5 Modules 


The course is divided into 5 modules. They include the following:


Modules 1 and 2 


These modules are designed to provide participants with a working knowledge of the functions and structure of the skin and the biology of hair physical and chemical process of the hair and scalp.  


Modules 3 


This module is designed to explore the physical and chemical process of the hair and scalp and how chemical processes to the hair can lead to hair breakage 


Modules 4 and 5


These modules cover the most common hair loss problems that can affect the hair. 


On successful completion of the course, participants will have a working knowledge of


·  Common Hair loss problems – causes and treatments

·  The structures, functions and physiology of the hair and skin

·  The role of amino acids and bonds in the hair

·  pH

·  Science of chemical process to the hair

·  The relevance of Microscopy


£610.00 course fee.

QUALIFICATION


At the end of the course, there will be a formal assessment where all participants will sit an on-line test. A Hair Practitioner certificate will be awarded on successful completion of the course.


If participants would like to further develop their knowledge in this field, they may consider studying the full IAT trichology course leading to a certificate as a trichologist – a professional that specialises in hair loss and scalp problems.  


If so, a credit of $250 can be put towards that course, on successful completion of this HPCC course.  


What you can expect by studying the Hair Practitioner’s Certificate Course

This course is designed to provide you with a working knowledge of the physical and chemical processes of the hair and scalp. We will then discuss how chemical processes to the hair can lead to hair breakage. Finally, we will discuss the most common hair loss problems that can affect the hair.


The goal is to give you some basic knowledge about the hair and scalp so that you can then understand how internal and external factors can cause hair loss and hair breakage.


The course consists of fortnightly Zoom classes, a digital textbook with photos and diagrams, plus 6 lectures – Relevance of pH, Disulphide Bond, Patches of Baldness, The Hair and Scalp, Diffuse Hair Loss, and The Microscope.
